Bill has worked on collective theatrical and live-recording musical adventures, working as a reviewer and tutoring English literature at various universities. A period of travel via the U.S.A. and U.K. (1994), led him to Berlin where he wrote his first novel Wormwood about a refugee from the Balkans war. A short novel about a fabled people complete with history, mythology and language samples (Onaevia), began a trilogy that led to Song of the Brakeman (2006) and the last story of his latest collection Enclosures.

When not teaching, he gives word-guitar performances of the solo garage variety. He has a repertoire of poems and songs for French and German audiences. In 2005 he was invited to read at the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival. He edits the literary annual journal Percutio.
