Olwyn Stewart

Olwyn's first novella is an interlacing of two plots. Structurally, it is the work of highly mathematical mind, but it is also the work of an astute observer of social and sexual mores. Curriculum Vitae takes place in and around Auckland, and the plot itself is an amazing feat of interweaving.

Olwyn also has the ear of a poet. and she has unmistakeably captured the speech patterns of contemporary NZ speech in coming up with a funny and realistic portrait of NZ society.

You could indeed say that "she has captured the heart, the soul and some of the more essential organs of Auckland city and suburban life" (back cover description), but Olwyn is also a poet and philosopher. In 1994 she wrote:

I want to think I'm out there somewhere

in a different edition,

praying through darkness, fasting through daylight

making you turn around and meet yourself loved.
