Curriculum
Vitae
Olwyn Stewart Olwyn's first novella is an interlacing of two plots. Structurally, it is the work of mathematical mind, and of an astute observer of social and sexual mores. Curriculum Vitae takes place in and around Auckland, and the plot alone is an accomplished feat of interweaving. She has unmistakeably captured the speech patterns of contemporary NZ speech in coming up with a funny and realistic portrait of NZ society. You could say simply that "she has captured the heart, the soul and some of the more essential organs of Auckland city and suburban life" (back cover description), but Olwyn is also a poet and philosopher and these qualities can be felt in Curriculum Vitae. In 1994 she wrote:
She has the ear of a poet and advocate of love. As a result, Curriculum Vitae is gutsy, funny, loving and real. [WD] RRP
